VGN-NR120E downgrade to XP

Sony is currently not offering a downgrade drivers for Windows vista home premium on their laptop. I have called technical support about the drivers for windows XP but neither of them can help me.

SONY VAIO VGN-NR120E (on the right)
Specifications:
Sony VAIO VGN-NR120E/S 15.4"" Notebook (1.46GHz Core Duo T2310 1GB RAM 160GB HDD DL DVD-RW Vista Home Premium) Sony VAIO VGN-NR120E/S 15.4"" Notebook (1.46GHz Core Duo T2310 1G

Before doing any changes to your computer:
Make sure you create a restore disk so that in case you want to revert back to the preinstalled Vista it will be possible. To create a restore disk just type "restore disk" in in VISTA help.
Be warned you could possibly make your laptop inoperable if you don't have a restore disk.

First of all you need to find and download all drivers for your laptop and use nlite to integrate all or almost all drivers to the Windows XP installer.
Take note that you can only use the latest release of Windows XP service pack 2 for evrything to be sucessful. (service pack 1 or SP1 integrated c SP2 may not work)

I. DOWNLOAD THE DRIVERS
1. SATA driver - find it here then extract using winimage
2. Motherboard (Mobile Intel® 945GM Express Chipset Family Driver) - download it here (updated 1/4/2009)
3. SOUND CARD - download here (updated)
b. Hotfix - KB835221 - you can find it here. (updated)
4. GRAPHICS CARD ( Mobile Intel 965) - find it here (updated)
5. NETWORK

6. Memory stick hot fix and SD card Hotfix - find it here
7. modem - download here then force install in XP

UPDATE (1/4/2009) ALL DRIVERS FOR WINDOWS XP CAN NOW BE FOUND ON SONY SUPPORT SITE .. but you still need the SATA driver to be integrated in NLITE for the Windows XP installer to recognize the Harddisk.

II. Integrate all drivers to nlite

Sir,
will u please help me
how i install mass storage device
in VGN-NR-120E
thanks

What kind of mass storage device are you trying to install?
Have you installed Windows Xp?
What Version of Windows XP did you install? (service pack1 or 2)
Usually with mass storage device like external harddrive, when you plug it into the USB port, Windows will automatically recognize it.

Sorry can't do that. It would include a licensed Windows XP which will violate terms and agreement. I have updated the links for the drivers that you will need let me know if there is any dead links or If you have any questions.

The version that you should use should be Windows XP service pack2 or higher don't use the upgrade version either. There is a tutorial here for nlite that you can follow http://teamtutorials.com/windows-tutorials/how-to-make-a-custom-windows-install-w-nlite

A reply to My Chart.
The messege of "no hard disk" when you tried to install windows XP is the SATA hard drive.

Normally you need a floppy drive so that windows installer will be able to locate it, but floppy drive is obsolete.

OK here's how. First do this on another computer where you have a CD writer (not on your Sony laptop).
1. extract the SATA driver (INDOTH-12766700-xp.zip)to a folder
Extract the rest of the drivers for the Laptop like video, sound etc.
2. install nlite then ... when prompted ..Put your windows XP installer in the CDROM
3. locate the folder where your drivers are located including the SATA driver (most important).
4. Just follow the Prompt until nlite will create an iso file(image file) which you can burn into a blank CD (this will be the installer that you are going to use in your laptop...A windows XP installer integrated with all the drivers including the SATA driver)

**For a detailed How to of nlite go to this site http://teamtutorials.com/windows-tutorials/how-to-make-a-custom-windows-install-w-nlite

Let me know if you still have any trouble.

Charlie.

Yes absolutely correct. By the way XP drivers is already available for download in sony support site http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNNR120E&SelectOS=7

You can also Try another operating system way better than VISTA. It's called SABAYON LINUX. http://www.sabayonlinux.org/

This OS runs on the DVD. Just download the iso image file and burn it to a DVD.
Boot into the DVD and you will be able to use the OS with all free software.
